Attending the Annual mGluRs Neuroscience Symposium

The mGluRs (Midwest/Great Lakes Undergraduate Research Symposium) in Neuroscience was inaugurated in 2009 at Ohio Wesleyan University.  This annual research conference allows undergraduate students who have participated in a research experience (often during the summer) to present their work in a small and non-intimidating venue.  In addition, there are learning opportunities throughout the day for faculty and students alike, with sessions on graduate programs and entrance, publication opportunities for students, cutting edge pedagogy and a keynote address.

Here are out students at the mGluRs conference at Baldwin Wallace on October 1, 2022.  Five students presented posters, one gave a platform presentation and many others just appreciated the day of science, cohort building and conversations about career paths.

Attending the Annual Kent State Neuroscience Symposium

We have attended this conference for the last 5 years, it’s a great one-day topically focused set of lectures from leaders in the field.

Educational Outreach

My students and I have taken Brain Awareness Week activities into two local elementary schools over the past seven years, we have presented “Zanny Brainy” for the Expanding your Horizons program, and been involved in Science Day here at the College since it’s inception.

Summer REU Research Symposium

Our NSF Summer REU capped off 9-weeks of intensive Neuroscience research with an annual day long research symposium.  The summer research participants presented talks and posters at the College of Wooster in July 2016, 2017 and 2018.
